Many visitors to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are interested in seeing Mount Whitney, the tallest mountain in the « lower 48 » states at 14,505 feet. However, Mount Whitney is on the east side of the Great Western Divide, a chain of mountains that runs north/south through the center of Sequoia National Park. Every year thousands travel to Whitney with their hearts set on attaining the summit of Mt. Whitney.  To maintain the natural wilderness character of the hike and prevent overcrowding daily quotas for the Mt. Whitney trail during the peak season are put in place. Awesome Hiking!
